We fondly referred to CKI “our Mighty, Little Synagogue.” While our synagogue was originally Orthodox, and later joined the Conservative movement, in its later years CKI was not officially affiliated with any of the movements. Our members came from a variety of Jewish traditions and backgrounds, and our services blended the traditional and contemporary, including familiar old melodies along with more modern tunes.
Women and men participated equally in all aspects of life at CKI, including holding office, chairing committees, reading from the Torah, and leading services. Many of our congregants volunteered their time and efforts to help run our synagogue’s committees, activities, and social events.
